Today is the Sunday after Thanksgiving! What a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend it has been! I have so many blessings in my life and I hope that I never take one of them for granted.
We left on Thursday morning to go to Abilene to join Nathan & Alyson, my folks, Darren's dad and Jarrod. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving meal together. I was so impressed that Alyson, at such a young age, was willing to pull together a meal for Thanksgiving. I would've never been able to do that at 24 years old! She is a wonderful cook and such an awesome hostess. Nathan had to work all weekend to get ready for the playoff game, but we enjoyed seeing him while we could. It was wonderful to share time with our parents as well. Mom and Dad had been at a camp near Abilene so they brought their motor home. I'm glad Billy went with us, too. It's hard to believe that Jean has been gone for 2 Thanksgivings already. Jarrod wasn't able to join us until Friday afternoon. He had to work at the bank Friday morning so he waited until he got off work to come over to Abilene. On Friday, the girls shopped a lot and the guys watched football...a lot! On Saturday, ACU played Central Missouri so we all went to the game. It was a wonderful game, but in the end, we came out on the wrong side 55-41.
Some of the things I'm most thankful for:
1. My family. I love being married to a guy who keeps things so interesting. Darren is the love of my life and he always puts up with me through good times and bad. My two boys are incredible men and I'm so proud of them. My beautiful daughter-in-law is a blessing from above. My parents have been there for me since the day I was born (literally)! I love them to pieces. My father-in-law is so special to me as well. I'm glad he gave me the greatest gift in the world...my hubby! My siblings and my brothers and sisters-in-law round out my family along with my nephews, nieces, great nephew and nieces and my wonderful Aunts and cousins make me a very blessed woman!
2. My home. There's no place like home! That is a very true statement. Years ago, I remember that I always felt like my parent's home was still my "home", but things have changed in the last few years. Now my home is my home. I love the warmth of walking into my home, the beauty that surrounds me, the memories of raising a family here.
3. My job. I'm thankful that I truly enjoy going to work each day (well, almost every day). I love the women that I get to work with, the families that I see each day and the students that I get to love on each day. It's the kids that make me so incredibly happy. They bless my life each and every day.
4. My friends. Whether I see my friends once a week or once a year, I'm thankful that I have a few people that I can call on and they would be there for me in a heartbeat. You know who you are! I love that I can laugh with you, cry with you, share my secrets with you....thank you for being there for me!
5. My Lord. I'm thankful that I love a God that loves me more! I'm thankful that I gave my life to him when I was 10 years old and He'll always be there for me! I pray for our church that we will find a new pastor to lead us to live a life that brings us closer to God.
There are so many things that make my life so wonderful, but it is truly the people in my life that make me feel so blessed. If you are reading this, you are special to me because you have touched my life in one way or another. Thank you for being part of who I am!
Give thanks with a grateful heart!
Vickie
