If you are a principal, teacher, student, or even a Mom, you are probably getting pretty excited about the new school year. I love the start of a new year in school! I remember as a little girl getting so excited to buy new school supplies. What is it about a new set of unbroken crayons that just puts a smile on my face? I remember laying all of my school supplies out on the floor and arranging them, only to do it again and again until I got them just right! There's nothing like a new Donny Osmond lunchbox to just send chill bumps down a girls' arms either!
And then there were those great new school shoes and clothes. When we would get home from shopping, I would always do a style show for my Dad and he gladly acknowledged my new outfits as he watched one of the three channels that we had on TV.
I guess I've always been a 'school-girl' at heart! It's just such an exciting time of year for me!
Now that I'm a principal, I still get excited about that first day of school outfit! I also love ordering new supplies for the teachers, and believe me, those teachers act like it's Christmas when I deliver new stuff to them. However, probably the thing I love the most about a new school year is the NEW BEGINNING that it brings. All of us get a fresh start. Maybe a teacher and her co-worker didn't get along so well last year...August is a new beginning. Maybe a student had a really rough year and decided that they hated school...August is a new beginning. Maybe a principal was a little hard on a few people in her building...August is a new beginning!
Praise God that He let's us have new beginnings each day, too. Our slates are wiped clean each time we ask for forgiveness...every day is a NEW BEGINNING!
Lord, as we begin a new school year, help me to be wise in my words and actions. Help me to be a light to my students and to show Your love to each person that enters our school. Thank You for new beginnings!
